Dr. Ali Moustafa Mosharafa
Essam EL Hadary

Dr. Mosharafa was born on the 11th of July, 1898 in Damietta. He was a theoretical physicist and professor of Applied Mathematics in the Faculty of Science at Cairo University.

He published 25 original papers in various scientific journals about the theory of relativity, quantum theory, and the relation between radiation and matter.

Dr. Mosharafa published around 12 scientific books about relativity and mathematics.

El Hadary was born on the 15th of Jan. 1973 in Kafr Al Battikh, Damietta. He is a goalkeeper known as “The High Dam”.

He was the main reason behind the escalation of the Damietta Sporting Club to the 1st division.

He played 159 matches with the Egyptian National Team. He won the African Cup of Nations 4 times with Egypt’s National Team and the Egyptian Premier League 8 times with Al Ahly Club.

Raafat Ali Suleiman Al Gammal was born in Damietta on the 1st of July, 1927. He was known as “Raafat El Haggan” in Egypt and “Jack Bitton” in Israel.

He was an Egyptian spy and a national hero who spent 17 years performing undercover operations against Israel.

He managed to become a prominent figure in the Israeli society by establishing a wide and successful business interests in Tel Aviv.

El Haggan spied and provided the Egyptian Intelligence Service with significant information which included the date of the Six-Day War of 1967, under the guise of a tourism company inside Israel.

He had an effective role in preparing for the
October War in 1973 after providing Egypt with
details of the Bar Lev Line.

Zaki Naguib Mahmoud was born on the 1st of Feb. 1905 in "Mit El Khouly Abd Allah" village near Damietta. He was known as “The Philosopher of Authors and Author of Philosophers”.

He was one of the most distinguished Arab philosophers in the 20th century. He acquired great knowledge in the fields of philosophy, literature, criticism, and logic.

He wrote several books, such as “The Myth of Metaphysics, The Paradise of the Fool, On Positivist Logic, and Renewal of Arabic Thought”.

He received many awards, such as the necklace of Sultan Al Owais of the U.A.E. in 1991, the honorary PHD by the American University in 1985 and the Cairo International Book Fair Award in 1992 for his book "Harvest of the Years" as it was considered the best book in the literature field.
Farouk Shousha
Aisha Abdel Rahman

Farouk Shousha was born in Damietta on the
17th of Feb. 1936. He was known as the guardian
of the Arabic Language and an influential Egyptian poet
who won the state's Nile Award for Literature.

He expressed his passion towards the Arabic Language through his radio program “Loughatouna Al Gamila” ( Our Beautiful Language ) and presented another television program “Umsiya Thaqafiya”
( Cultural Evening ) since 1977 to glorify
the Arab culture.

He wrote many literary works, such as “Our Beautiful Language, The Best Twenty Poems of Love in Arabic Poetry, Therapy with Poetry, and Cultural Confrontation”.

Aisha Mohammad Ali Abdel Rahman
(aka: Bint Al Shati) was born on the 6th of Nov. 1913 in Damietta.

Bint Al Shati was one of Egypt’s most prominent figures as she contributed several times in literature and Islamic studies. She was also the 1st woman to give lectures at Al Azhar Al Sharif.

She worked as a journalist in Al Ahram newspaper in Egypt.
-
She was the first Arab woman to be awarded with significant prizes, such as The King Faisal Prize in Arabic Literature and Islamic Studies.
Dr. Zahi Hawass

Hassaballah El Kafrawy

Dr. Hawass was born on the 28th of May, 1947 in a small village in Faraskour, Damietta. He is an Egyptian archaeologist and Egyptologist.

He was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to attend the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia to study Egyptology.

Dr. Hawass taught Egyptology at the American University in Cairo and the University of California,
Los Angeles.

In 2009, he presented his book “A Secret Voyage” to Queen Sofia of Spain at the Royal Palace in Madrid.

El Kafrawy was born on the 30th of Nov. 1930
in Damietta.

He was the Minister of Housing of Egypt
from 1977 to 1993.

Abo Zahra is an Egyptian actor who was born in Damietta on the 8th of March, 1934.

He performed in more than 300 movies, series, and theatres, such as “The Cactus Flower, Girl’s Love, and King Farouk”.

He dubbed a lot of cartoons for Disney, such as Jafar in “Aladdin” and Scar in “The Lion King”.
-
Disney announced that Abo Zahra is the best dubbing character of Scar in “The Lion King” movie.
