You think Paris is the only country that has the Notre-Dame Church which is known as St. Mary Church. Believe it or not, Damietta has another Notre-Dame that you can visit instead of Notre-Dame in Paris.
Notre-Dame or as it is known “St. Mary Church” is one of the oldest and most ancient churches in Damietta. At the first sight, you will not be able to distinguish it from Europe's ancient churches.
St. Mary Church was established by the Roman Catholics in 1745. That is why it is one of the oldest churches in the world. Once you enter the church, it feels as if you entered a time machine that is taking you back to the Roman era. You will be stunned by its warmth and authenticity. You’ll see the pictures of Jesus and St. Mary all over the church. Also, if you look above, you will notice the ceiling with astonishing paintings, taking you back in Christian history, to the story of St. Mary and Jesus Christ.

One will be left in awe at the sight of a piece of the wooden cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified. This piece is extremely rare as it was a gift from St. Marcus, the priest of Marseille, in 1974 to the church. This piece can only be seen in St. Mary Church.

You can also get the blessings of St. Sidhom Beshay, whose body lies in the church where he was martyred.

The holy atmosphere, filled with the smell of incense won’t be completed without the presence of the priests and deacons, their hearts, and faces full of forgiveness and gracefulness. When you light up the candles, your heart will swell with joy, and your ears will be delighted to hear the quaint hymns.
Don’t forget to take souvenirs from the church because an extraordinary experience deserves to be cherished forever.
The holidays are coming up! Pack your bags; go to Damietta to spend an unforgettable Christmas in one of the greatest and finest churches in the world. Visiting St. Mary Church is a unique spiritual experience.
