If you're seeking pure Andalusian vibes, then you have found your destination here in Al Bahr Mosque. The mosque is allocated in Damietta city on the Eastern Bank of the Nile River. If we dig into the history of Al Bahr Mosque, we will find that its first renovation was during the times of the Ottoman Empire in 1009 AH. The mosque was then re-established following a traditional Andalusian design. The second reconstruction was in 1976 and maintained the same Andalusian style of architecture. In 1997, it was restored for the third time and re-opened on the Night of Isra and Mi'raj. As you stroll through the streets of the city, you’ll find 5 classic majestic domes and 2 astoundingly high standing minarets, which are distinctive among all other buildings.

The moment you enter the mosque, you would feel the beauty and the magnificence of the place. This mosque was built in a very artistic way as the ceiling is full of splendid and sparkling lights. The ground is shining with red prayer carpets, decorated with golden shapes. If you inspected the walls, you will notice the fabulous Islamic patterns and meaningful Quranic verses. There is a beneficial cultural and religious library in the mosque, to help you know more about the Islamic history and the contributions of Muslims to human civilization.
On a warm Friday morning, we were there enjoying the marvelous view of the Nile River, and the fresh breeze touching our face. The moment we heard Friday's noon prayer call “Adhan''
( Jumu'ah prayer call ), our hearts were filled with pure spiritual enlightenment, and went to pray. Afterwards, we headed to the library to read and enrich our minds with the most significant books about the Ottoman Empire and the glory of Andalusia.

When we asked some locals whose ancestors lived in this area for ages about the history of the mosque, they told us that the mosque was overlooking the Nile River and there were no buildings blocking its view back then. There was an area of big old basins with water coming from the Nile, so the people performed a purification ritual called “Wudu”.
The spirituality of Al Bahr Mosque with its outstanding view would leave you with unforgettable memories and devoted hearts that would always lead you back to this place.
